Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"I am the Bone of my Jank\nArtifacts are my Body and Creatures are my Blood.\nI have caged over a Thousand Jank cards,\nUnknown to the Graveyard,\nNor known to the Battlefield.\nHave regenerated from damage to cage many synergies\nYet that Cage will never hold Anything.\nSo, as I Pray--\nUnlimited Jank Works\n\nThis is a combo deck where every combo will exist in exile rather than on the battlefield and ultimately be incarnate in the form of a single card: Mairsil the Pretender himself. Many of the pieces are also unbelievably strange cards, which happen to have abilities that are individually good when welded to Mairsil's chassis. By caging profoundly stupid cards like Shaku, Endbringer, Mairsil becomes able to use their powers without the restrictions.\n\nPerhaps the most core infinite in the deck centers around Quicksilver Elemental. With Quicksilver Elemental's ability, Mairsil can pay blue and target himself to reload another \"shot\" of all his abilities. If two of these abilities are Gilded Lotus and an untapper like Pili-Pala, Horseshoe Crab, or Morphling, this allows him to go infinite, producing an arbitrary amount of mana in any combination of colors and also having arbitrary uses of his abilities, even abilities that require tapping since the mana to untap and reload could be banked ahead in order to do something other than tap for mana as many times as you want. In this state he could clear the board as Shaku, have everyone riffle through their decks as Magus of the Wheel (with Thousand-Year Elixir to let him jump back from the command zone and get right back to it, with a new cage no less), or just mess with the whole world with Staff of Domination.\n\nDon't get that specific engine? As Ventifact Bottle, Magistrate's Scepter, and an Untapper, you have infinite turns without the need for Quicksilver Elemental -- load Mairsil up with charge counters via Ventifact's ability (4 mana for 3 counters), untap him as something that permits that (perhaps even Eater of the Dead), and then burn them off for a turn with Scepter's second activated ability, after which you'll be free to just do it again when the extra turn comes around.\n\nBut how to cage so many cards? Well, that's fairly easy! you could start with Magus of the Wheel to send Mairsil back to the command zone at will while reloading your hand and stocking your graveyard (which you can cage from just fine), but let's say you're the kind of Planeswalker who doesn't believe in taxes, and thus doesn't want to pay Mairsil's commander tax just to get another victim in the cage. Dead-Eye Navigator (uncaged, in a rare moment for the deck) can help you out, or you could do it the fun way: Cage a Pack Rat or Myr Propagator first and give Mairsil the ability to simply copy himself at will. The copy will get legend ruled, of course, but it will cage a new card before doing so -- for the Pack Rat outlet, possibly the exact card you discarded to make the copy, letting Mairsil stock himself up on the cheap. And, if you get a Mirror Gallery or Mirror Box you can kick off the Crisis of Infinite Mairsils, as each Mairsil will have his own set of ability shots out of their communal cage, letting you multiply the silly things you can do... including that \"make a new Mairsil\" action. It is profoundly stupid and lets you do things like using Lux Cannon/Magistrate's Scepter to go infinite turns just by staggering which Mairsils are charging up and which one is pulling you another turn.\n\nBut what about removal? Won't your beautiful Rube Goldberg machine of insane and mostly terrible cards be answered? Well, most of your combo exists in exile, where very few cards interact with them. If you run into Eldrazi Processors or Riftsweeper, you can have a good laugh because someone managed to pick the only cards terrible enough to answer your terrible cards. Otherwise, only Mairsil himself can be answered, which sucks if he's turned into a tree or sent to moonjail, but if he's just killed? You have to pay the tax, sure, but other than that it's basically another free cage. And if you want to dodge the removal and therefore the tax, you can phase out as Mist Dragon, Vodalian Illusionist, or Rainbow Efreet, effortlessly dodging all the horrible things that can be done to a creature... even the ones you do yourself like Decree of Annihilation, letting you leave only Mairsil and his absurd cage on the field.\n"}]}
