This is true for many blue decks as counter magic is a simple and effective way of keeping your opponents in check. However, this can lead to a stressful and toxic play environment in some cases. For this reason, counter spells are not the main way of controlling the board in this deck. Unfortunately, as much ire as they draw, counter spells are a necessary evil in a deck restricted to blue. By itself, blue doesn't have other solid ways of re-establishing the board after a wipe or dealing with the fallout of a nasty piece of removal, so this deck really has to play counter spells to cover its ass.\n\nIn spite of running counter magic, this deck is geared toward controlling the game in a unconventional way: through combat. Blue has access to diverse ways to swing combat in your favor, and playing all these effects together allows you to force opponents to make tough decisions while they never know what you have up your sleeve. As the game progresses, a critical mass of battle tricks will allow Charix to be a constantly attacking and blocking threat.
